    Review

The Fallstead, a brand new independent living senior residence that opened in 2018, boasts all new appliances and beautiful landscaping. However, despite its modern amenities, some residents have reported feeling isolated during their time there. With everyone working remotely, there was little opportunity for interaction and the community spaces like the community room, courtyard, and shaded porch were often empty. Although the activities offered were enjoyable, the overall experience was curtailed by this sense of isolation.

Another aspect that left a negative impression on residents was the unfriendly staff. Some reviewers highlighted that the application process seemed to be biased towards women only and there were instances of discrimination being openly stated. This led to concerns about fairness and inclusivity at The Fallstead. It is important to note that this facility is not a nursing home but rather an independent living senior residence with mostly subsidized apartments.

Furthermore, the food program at The Fallstead has received significant criticism from residents. Not only is it mandatory for all residents at a cost of $225 per month, but also the quality of food served leaves much to be desired. Many described it as poor quality and often overcooked. Additionally, if residents are away on vacation or need to stay in the hospital for an extended period of time, they are still required to pay for the meal plan. Refunds are only provided if specific forms are filled out ahead of time and even then, just $4 per day is returned out of the approximately $7.50 daily cost.

Interestingly enough, some long-term residents mentioned that prior to Goodwinhouse taking over The Fallstead management, both the overall experience and food quality were significantly better. It appears that this change in management had a negative impact on these aspects.

Considering all these reviews together paints a somewhat bleak picture of life at The Fallstead for prospective residents and their families. Isolation due to remote work arrangements seems to be a prevalent issue, along with concerns about the friendliness of staff and a perceived bias in the application process. The mandatory food program, which receives considerable criticism for its poor quality and high cost, further adds to residents' dissatisfaction. It is clear that improvements need to be made in order to create a more welcoming and enjoyable living environment at The Fallstead.
