Review

New Dawn, a senior living facility that was recently sold in December 2019, has received mixed reviews from its residents and their families. Prior to the sale, the facility was highly regarded for its excellent environment. However, after the new owners took over, changes were evident.

During a meeting before the takeover, the new owners assured families that nothing would change. However, when questioned about potential changes in patient-to-aide ratio, the response was ambiguous and implied that there might be adjustments made in the future. This uncertainty led to some employees being fired or seeking other job opportunities.

One family member shared their mother's disappointing experience with the dining services at New Dawn. On Christmas day, her mother ate in the dining room and described it as the worst meal she had ever been served in her 86 years of existence. The quality of food had significantly deteriorated, portions were reduced drastically, and some meals were served at room temperature or even cold. Medications were also delivered inconsistently based on convenience rather than necessity.

Despite these issues not being faulted on the hardworking staff members, they are still faced with challenges caused by these changes. The most crucial aspect of elder care lies in providing healthy meals, sufficient staff members, and properly administered medications – all of which have become unsatisfactory.

However, it's important to note that there are positive aspects highlighted by other reviewers as well. The rooms at New Dawn are reportedly nice and impeccably clean. The staff members are friendly and always willing to assist residents in any way possible. Additionally, residents have options and choices when it comes to their meals and snacks — a positive aspect mentioned by one reviewer.

Activities and entertainment at New Dawn appear to be fantastic according to another reviewer who appreciates how this keeps their parents engaged and provides them with a warm feeling reminiscent of home.

Another review reflects positively on how accommodating New Dawn was during their grandmother's stay. After her leg amputation, the facility provided excellent care and support, including holding her medications and ensuring she was ready for appointments. The spacious and inviting rooms contributed to a comfortable environment for her.

Unfortunately, not long after returning home, this reviewer's grandmother passed away. However, they highlight how the facility gave them valuable tips on caring for her at home during her last days. The attention to detail shown by the staff demonstrated genuine care and compassion.

In summary, New Dawn has experienced significant changes since its sale in 2019, which have resulted in a decline in certain areas such as food quality, staff availability, and medication administration. However, positive aspects such as clean and comfortable rooms, friendly staff members, engaging activities, and helpfulness during difficult times have also been mentioned by residents and their families.
