    Review

Assured initially stood out for the care they provided to my father. The daily attention he received was consistently described as excellent, with caregivers who were communicative, helpful, and genuinely devoted to his well-being. In this part of the experience, the staff earned high marks for kindness, professionalism, and a visible commitment to the people they were caring for.

However, after Assured bought the company from Serenity Homes ALF, the situation deteriorated in ways that touched every aspect of the operation. The changeover brought a marked decline in management and administrative communication. Despite multiple requests for clearer and more timely updates, the communication remained poor, leaving families feeling out of the loop and unsure about the plans and status of their loved ones.

The problems reached a new level during a care plan Zoom call, where one of the executive directors was described as downright rude to our entire family. This incident illustrated a broader shift in tone and culture at the leadership level, contrasting sharply with the previously supportive and respectful interactions we had with caregivers and staff on the ground. The experience on that call felt unprofessional and left a lasting negative impression of upper management.

Another major concern was the staffing assurance given by the company. We were told there would always be two caregivers on-site at all times, but there were numerous occasions when we visited my mother and found only one staff member present. This discrepancy between promises and reality was alarming, especially given the vulnerability and needs of the residents. The inconsistency in staffing contributed to a sense of inadequacy in the level of care during those times.

Over time, there was a noticeable and troubling turnover of staff since the acquisition. It seemed that many employees did not want to remain in an environment where they felt unsafe or unwelcome due to the way they were treated by senior management. The high turnover compounded the challenges of providing stable, reliable care and eroded the confidence of families who depended on consistent, familiar faces for their loved ones.

In the end, our experience spanned seven months, and during that period it was simply not a good one for my mother. The combination of poor management communication, problematic leadership behavior, inconsistent on-site coverage, and ongoing staffing instability created an overall atmosphere that detracted from the quality of care we believed was possible. Given these issues, I would not recommend this company to anyone or their loved ones.

There is a clear contrast between the commendable daily caregiving and the troubling leadership and organizational practices at the top. While the caregivers themselves remained compassionate, professional, and dedicated to taking good care of my mother, the overarching management and the way the company was run ultimately overshadowed those positive aspects. The only redeeming factor, by the end, was the day-to-day care from the front-line staff, but it was not enough to offset the broader concerns about leadership, communication, and stability.

Ultimately, the experience underscored a fundamental misalignment between the hands-on care provided at the bedside and the direction of the organization as a whole. The family could not tolerate the executive directors and senior management, and the way they ran the company, despite the genuine care and effort of the on-site caregivers. It is a sobering reminder of how important leadership culture and reliable, respectful communication are to the integrity of care communities.
