Cons
The facility needed a deep cleaning and had that smell that everyone thinks of when dealing with elderly residents.
Dining room has been closed off and on due to staffing issues.
They had a price raise of 10% since the beginning of 2022, which was a large increase.
The only issue we had was their pharmacy, as our loved one's bill was done on a 30-day basis instead of every 90 days outside of the facility.
Part of the problem is my parents started in December, right before the big Omicron Covid outbreak, creating challenges and turnover in staffing.
Cleanliness has been an issue in the residents' rooms due to Covid, although the common spaces are fine.
It is a little higher in price and takes a bit of adjusting to get used to.
Mom has been in memory care at The Charlotte for about a year, and it's been a tough year as the staff struggles to care for their residents during the Covid pandemic.
With all the Covid restrictions and regulations, we were afraid we would not be able to celebrate my mother's birthday at The Charlotte.
Review
The Charlotte has received mixed feedback from visitors and residents alike. Some have heard promising reviews from friends and family who have had experience with the facility in the past. However, during their visit, it was apparent that there was a shortage of staff or some staff members did not show up for the day. This led to a lack of cleanliness in the facility, with a distinct odor commonly associated with caring for elderly residents. Despite this, the overall impression was that The Charlotte could benefit from a deep cleaning and refreshing, but still had many positive aspects.
One recurring issue mentioned is the challenges faced in providing care at The Charlotte. There have been difficulties due to staffing issues, which have resulted in intermittent closure of the dining room and inconsistent care from rotating staff members. Additionally, there has been a significant price increase of 10% since the beginning of 2022, which was unexpected for some residents. It is recommended to inquire about any potential price increases when considering The Charlotte as an option.
Pharmacy services also posed an issue for one reviewer, as their loved one's medication bill was done on a 30 day basis rather than receiving medication every 90 days outside of the facility. It is suggested to explore other pharmacy options that can accommodate specific needs such as blister packs.
Despite these challenges, there were positive comments regarding the efforts made by The Charlotte to help residents qualify for insurance coverage and provide various medical services such as visits from dermatologists and podiatrists, physical therapy sessions, and access to beauty salons.
Another factor influencing experiences at The Charlotte is timing. One reviewer mentioned that their parents moved in just before a major Omicron Covid outbreak occurred. This resulted in additional challenges such as turnover in staffing and inconsistent care due to different caregivers tending to residents regularly. However, cleanliness has been maintained in common areas.
Several reviewers expressed satisfaction with living at The Charlotte due to having nice apartments, kind people around them, and helpful staff. The food was also mentioned as being enjoyable, and the ability to have tasks taken care of by others was appreciated.
Overall, The Charlotte has received mixed reviews regarding staffing issues, cleanliness, and pricing. However, there are positive aspects such as friendly and helpful staff members, a clean and orderly facility, and efforts made to engage residents in various activities. It is important for potential residents or their families to visit The Charlotte personally and inquire about any concerns they may have before making a decision.
