Other
Our experience with Spectrum caring for our daughter in one of their medical group homes was far from what we hoped for and far from acceptable. From the start, the care felt sub-par and inconsistent, leaving us continually worried about whether she was getting the attention and medical oversight she needed. It wasn't just a matter of routine hiccups; there were real lapses in how her daily care was handled, and we found ourselves repeatedly having to step in and correct course because staff were not following basic expectations or medical guidance.
A large part of our frustration stemmed from repeated resistance to following her doctor's protocol. We were forced to push back and insist that staff adhere to established procedures, sometimes in front of our daughter, which was stressful for everyone involved. The pattern was clear: requests to execute the doctor's orders were met with reluctance or outright pushback, as if the protocol were negotiable rather than non-negotiable. It created a sense of insecurity about her safety and well-being, because vital steps could be delayed or neglected simply because the staff did not want to be inconvenienced or were unsure how to implement them correctly.
There were incidents of abuse during the time she stayed there, a detail that cannot be overlooked. The implications of those events haunted us, and even after she no longer resides in the home, the effects linger. Since her return home, we've noticed behavior in her that wasn't adequately managed by the staff while she was away, suggesting that there had not been proper oversight or effective behavioral strategies in place. The fear of repeat situations and the concern for her safety have remained with us long after the fact.
The situation was compounded by a troubling pattern of deception and unfulfilled promises. We were told what sounded like assurances to win us over and secure her place in the facility, but those promises did not materialize in practice. The difference between what we were told and what actually happened was jarring, and it eroded our trust in the facility. It felt as if the facility would say whatever was necessary to get her admitted, then fail to uphold commitments or provide transparent, ongoing communication about her care plan.
Compounding these issues were tangible losses: expensive medical equipment belonging to our daughter was ruined, and items of significant value went missing while she was in their care. When we confronted the staff, they would deny responsibility or shift blame onto the family or the guardian, which was not only frustrating but deeply discouraging. The lack of accountability made it harder to move forward and restore a sense of security around her treatment and possessions.
The staff mix at the facility was another major concern. While there were a few individuals who clearly cared and performed well, they tended not to stay for long. The longer-tenured staff who remained sometimes grew complacent or lazy, undermining the quality of care and the consistency we needed. The pattern of turnover made it nearly impossible to establish a reliable routine, and it often felt like the same issues resurfaced with new faces, while the overall culture remained unclear and unsteady.
Throughout this ordeal, the owners and leadership came under serious scrutiny in our view. We found their approach and conduct to be questionable, and the entire operation left us feeling uneasy about where accountability truly rested. There was a persistent sense that the leadership did not fully own up to shortcomings or take decisive steps to protect residents or address concerns. In the end, our experience led us to a clear conclusion: we cannot recommend leaving a vulnerable family member, or even a pet for that matter, in the care of this organization. The risks and patterns of care we witnessed were too troubling to overlook, and they have left us cautious about similar facilities in the future.
