This place left me with a very negative impression at first. The experience was marred by what I perceived as dirt and lax oversight. There were reports of employees without ID cards and a concerning lack of proper permit checks, which added to my unease about safety and accountability. The overall atmosphere felt unsettled, and it was hard to ignore these basic gaps in supervision and procedure.
The time frame matters a lot to me. This review covers the period when my dad was in this group home from April of last year until the last week of March of this year. During that stretch, I watched conditions deteriorate in ways that were hard to overlook. My loved one (LO) was placed in a very small room that seemed designed for one person only, which felt inappropriate given the circumstances. The situation was compounded by frequent deviations from what I would expect in terms basic care and oversight.
There were several specific incidents that stood out as red flags. For a while, LO wore a hospital gown rather than normal clothes, which felt dehumanizing and was not aligned with respectful care. I had to trim LO's nails myself three times when we celebrated holidays at a family home, highlighting a lack of routine, attentive care. There was a fall that wasn't reported to the social worker, which is a serious lapse in monitoring and communication. Additionally, LO was found with dried feces behind their jeans and dirty nails on Christmas Eve, an image that is hard to forget and speaks to a broader issue with cleanliness and hygiene.
Communication, in particular, was a persistent problem. I can't overstate how essential clear, proactive communication is in this setting, and sadly it was very lacking - either minimal or poorly executed. This made it difficult to stay informed about LO's condition, safety, and daily routines, and it contributed to a sense of being left in the dark at times when I needed to know what was happening.
There is a turning point, though, that gives me some cautious optimism. I'm relieved to say that LO is now in a much better place, and I am receiving photos and updates via text messages. The current team is described as very communicative, which is a huge plus for me and a meaningful improvement after what I experienced earlier. It's reassuring to see that more consistent contact and visibility into LO's day-to-day life have started to happen.
I also noticed a hopeful sign with the change in ownership. I hope the new owner continues to push for better standards, and so far there have been positive indicators. For instance, when I called, I spoke with a male caregiver who was helpful in trying to locate a dog plushie and a beanie that LO had left behind. It's small things, but it demonstrates a more attentive and responsive approach that I value.
In summary, my earlier experience was dominated by dirtiness, unsafe lapses, and poor communication, with several concrete examples that troubled me. Yet there has been a meaningful shift since the new ownership, marked by better communication, more frequent updates, and a generally more attentive approach to LO's daily life. While I remain hopeful, I recognize that ongoing improvements are necessary to sustain this progress and to prevent any recurrence of the issues I witnessed.
