Cons

  • pro At that time there were no diabetic menus offered. My partner always needed insulin because of food choices available. This did not happen in other facilities.
  • pro Not enough night staff. If a fire would have happened it wouldn't have been discovered fast enough. The same with patient falls. Answering call lights for falls or any kind of help wasn't prompt at night.
  • pro No dietary instruction for staff or patients. The fact that dietary was also doing patient laundry was concerning.
  • pro Had to search for linen, if needed.
  • pro There was not a lot of residents and not a lot of activities here. I didn't feel like this was the right fit for my loved one.
  • pro The only thing that I would mention is that the food could be better.
  • pro I did notice they could be a tad better on cleaning.
  • pro It is just south of Towson mall and a little congested being across from Towson University

Review

The Maples of Towson received mixed reviews from residents and their families in terms of the care provided and the overall experience. One recurring issue mentioned was the lack of diabetic menus, which meant that residents with diabetes had limited food choices available to them. This was a concern for some, as it meant that their loved ones required insulin due to the limited options provided by the facility. However, this seemed to be a unique problem at The Maples and not something experienced at other facilities.

Another common complaint was the lack of night staff. Some expressed concerns about what would happen in case of emergencies, such as fires or patient falls, as there were not enough staff available during the night shift to promptly respond to these situations. Additionally, there were no dietary instructions provided for both staff and patients, which raised concerns about the level of knowledge and expertise in providing appropriate meals for residents. It was also concerning that dietary staff were responsible for doing patient laundry.

Some individuals felt that The Maples was not the right fit for their loved ones due to factors such as limited activities and a small number of residents. However, others had a more positive experience, appreciating the kind and caring environment provided by the community. Assisted living was preferred over nursing home environments by some, who found The Maples to be a suitable alternative in their specific situation.

Those who had toured the facility highlighted its clean and attractive appearance. They described it as a cozy and personal place compared to other options they explored. The architecture reminded them of an old Victorian eclectic house, giving it a unique charm similar to a vacation home. Residents appeared happy during exercise sessions, suggesting an active lifestyle within the community.

The ease of placement at The Maples was praised by one individual who found it convenient to work with them in getting their mother placed in the community. Room sizes were considered excellent with various floor plans available. This individual would recommend The Maples to others based on their positive experience.

Another reviewer mentioned that The Maples had a nice, clean, and spacious community. They also commended the staff for their good care of residents and expressed appreciation for the management of the facility.

There were two reviews with similar content, expressing satisfaction with the cleanliness, variety of meals, activities, and family-like environment provided by The Maples. Both reviewers found it to be a great community for their loved ones' care.

One individual shared an overwhelmingly positive experience after searching for assisted living facilities in Baltimore. They visited multiple places but felt depressed until they discovered The Maples. From the moment they walked through the door, they knew it was the right place for their mother due to its cleanliness, beautiful décor, and phenomenal staff. The reviewer appreciated that around-the-clock medication and care were available to ease their own worries as working individuals with families. Despite feeling guilty about moving their mother from her home, they were able to personalize her apartment with her own furniture and decorations. The staff became like a second set of children to her mother and provided comfort knowing she was safe and well-cared for.

Overall, The Maples of Towson received both positive and negative feedback from residents and their families. While some praised aspects such as cleanliness, variety of meals, activities offered, and general care provided by the staff, others had concerns about limited food options for diabetic residents, inadequate night staff availability for emergencies or falls, lack of dietary instructions and separation between dietary duties and patient care responsibilities.
