Review

After the devastating hurricane hit, my stepmother's home was severely damaged, leaving her without a safe place to stay. In our time of desperation, we turned to South Oaks for help. To our relief, they provided her with shelter and care for about a month until we could move her back into her own home. Overall, I have nothing but praises for the staff at South Oaks as they were truly wonderful to my stepmother during this difficult time.

My stepmother is known for her tough demeanor, but the majority of the people at South Oaks showed incredible kindness and understanding towards her. We are forever grateful for their compassionate approach in caring for her. However, there was one issue that arose during her stay. You see, my stepmother has dementia and relies on assistance with eating. Unfortunately, while the staff would bring her food regularly, they did not always take the time to feed her. As a result, she ended up losing weight.

In order to address this concern and ensure my stepmother's well-being, I decided to hire a private caretaker who had experience dealing with individuals with dementia. This decision proved to be beneficial as things improved significantly after the caretaker started coming during the day. Despite this setback with regard to feeding assistance, I still stand by my recommendation of South Oaks due to their overall kindness and understanding towards our urgent situation.

The aftermath of a hurricane can leave individuals in dire need of support and it is heartwarming to find institutions like South Oaks that extend their help in such times of crisis. Their willingness to provide shelter and care when immediately required showcases their dedication towards those in need. Moreover, given my stepmother's challenging behavior due to dementia, it speaks volumes about the staff's patience and compassionate nature that they were able to handle her effectively.

While there may have been some shortcomings in terms of feeding assistance at South Oaks during my stepmother's stay, these concerns were addressed by hiring a private caretaker. It is important to recognize that every individual's needs may vary, and what works for one person may not work for another. Despite this minor issue, South Oaks remains a recommended option due to their overall kindness and understanding in meeting the urgent needs of their residents. My stepmother is eternally grateful for their support during her stay, and we will always remember their assistance during this challenging time.
