Review

Assisted Living (AL) can be a great option for elderly individuals who need some extra support and care in their day-to-day lives. However, there are times when things don't go as smoothly as expected, as one family discovered with their mother's experience in AL. While there were initially only a few minor issues, such as lost clothing and an unclean room, the family stepped in to pick up the pieces and alleviate any unnecessary stress for their beloved mother.

In May, however, everything changed when their mother was moved to the Nursing Home side at Wolf Creek. Unfortunately, this transition brought about a wave of problems that seemed neverending. One of the most concerning issues was the staff's failure to shower their mother regularly. This is a basic requirement in providing proper care for residents and should not be overlooked. Additionally, the aides were failing to dress their mother appropriately or take her to the bathroom when needed.

To make matters worse, the aides on the second floor of Wolf Creek seemed unfriendly and even rude towards both the family members and their mother. Whenever they asked for assistance, it was met with reluctance and an unwelcoming attitude. This made an already difficult situation even more challenging for everyone involved.

On a positive note, there were some outside agency aides who provided exceptional care to both their mother and the family members themselves. These individuals were kind, compassionate, and went above and beyond in ensuring that their mother received proper attention and support.

Initially, it was believed that inadequate staffing might have been behind these issues at Wolf Creek. However, after observing ongoing problems despite what appeared to be sufficient staffing levels, it became clear that there may be another underlying cause: burnout among the aides. It's understandable that working in an environment where constant care is required can take its toll on caregivers over time. Nevertheless, burnout should never be an excuse for neglecting residents' needs or treating families disrespectfully.

Given these experiences, it's evident that Wolf Creek may not be the best facility for individuals requiring memory care or extensive assistance. The family's disappointment with the level of care provided is understandable, as they had hoped for a safe and nurturing environment for their mother. It is crucial to conduct thorough research and visit multiple facilities before deciding on the best option for a family member in need of specialized care.

In conclusion, while Assisted Living can be beneficial, it is essential to closely monitor the care provided to ensure that all needs are being met. Instances like lost clothing and an unclean room can be relatively minor issues, but when systemic problems arise, it is important to address them promptly. Families should advocate for their loved ones' well-being and seek alternatives if necessary to ensure they receive the quality assistance they deserve.
