Review

When it comes to the quality of care and cleanliness, Austinburg Nursing & Rehabilitation Center seems to have left many residents and their families disappointed. Multiple reviews mention dirty rooms, lack of concern from staff, and poor communication. One reviewer even mentioned their bed being wet from a leaking incision and sitting on a bedpan for hours. The only saving grace seemed to be Alex, the physical therapist, who provided some much-needed assistance.

Another issue that was commonly mentioned in the reviews was the decline in amenities and activities at the facility. Initially, there was a locked down unit specifically for dementia patients, but they were later moved into the general population. The rooms were described as spacious enough but poorly cleaned, with a persistent smell of urine in the bathroom and sticky floors throughout. Families had to take it upon themselves to clean until COVID-19 restrictions prevented them from doing so.

Communication with staff was also reported as very poor, with requests being ignored or not followed through. Activities for residents have significantly decreased over the years, and even amenities like the hairdresser have been shut down since March 2020 due to COVID-19.

The lack of caring staff and administration was another major concern among those leaving reviews. Some even mentioned that after new administration took over, the facility quickly went downhill. Staff shortages were evident in both assisted living areas and nursing sections of the facility. A particularly alarming incident involved a resident falling and breaking her hip but not receiving immediate attention or proper care until her family intervened by calling from afar.

In terms of food quality, most residents complained about it, prompting families to send monthly supplies or arrange take-out meals from local restaurants.

While there were a few positive comments about Austinburg Nursing & Rehabilitation Center's building, caring staff members, and therapy services, these sentiments were overshadowed by multiple negative experiences shared by others.

Overall, based on these reviews which reflect various experiences at Austinburg Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, it seems that there are significant concerns regarding cleanliness, communication, staff shortages, and a decline in amenities and activities. Families are actively considering moving their loved ones to different facilities in search of better care and a higher quality of life.
