Review

Clark Manor Assisted Living presents itself as a "Grand and Nostalgic" manor-style home, complete with serene surroundings and an image of compassion and competence portrayed by the Owner/Manager and staff. However, a stark contrast emerged during the four-month stay of an 88-year-old resident suffering from mild to moderate dementia, along with various age-related medical conditions. Despite the facility's appealing presentation, the care provided was anything but nurturing; it instead resulted in significant health declines for this vulnerable individual.

The initial impression upon entering Clark Manor was one of warmth and friendliness from both management and staff. Yet, despite their pleasant demeanor, it became evident that they lacked proper training and preparedness for delivering the contracted services necessary for effective elder care. This inadequacy was particularly troubling considering the high turnover rate among staff—four changes within just two months—which inevitably led to inconsistencies in care that were critical for a resident with specific needs. The lack of continuity among caregivers created an environment where essential responsibilities were neglected.

One of the more alarming issues noted during her stay was related to personal hygiene. Initially viewed positively—having a private room and bathroom—this arrangement quickly proved detrimental when staff allowed her to take on nearly all cleaning responsibilities herself. Suffering from incontinence and impaired mobility, she often found herself living in unsanitary conditions. The bathroom frequently reeked from urine residue that remained until family members or visitors requested attention, indicating a severe neglect of basic hygiene standards that should have been prioritized by the facility.

Temperature control exacerbated these issues further; on multiple occasions, residents were seen huddled under blankets while watching television due to inadequate heating within the building. Responses to temperature complaints gave little reassurance, as promises of repairs went unfulfilled during visits. When combined with high fees—especially concerning given their lack of service delivery—the overall value proposition of Clark Manor dramatically diminished over time. Most notably, a non-refundable initial deposit of $2,000 raised eyebrows when compared against similar facilities offering comparable services.

The situation further deteriorated regarding medication management—a cornerstone of any assisted living arrangement where health is at risk. Documentation provided upon discharge revealed serious discrepancies concerning how medications had been managed at Clark Manor; improper administration left medical staff at her new facility scrambling to replace all her pre-packaged medications as they could not decipher how they had been dispensed previously. Furthermore, vital medical information seemed routinely misplaced or misinterpreted by management, leading to lapses in care actions intended for proper treatment.

As if those concerns weren’t enough, there were glaring omissions regarding skin integrity that culminated in three significant ulcerations requiring specialized wound care treatment—conditions that never once received communication either formally or informally from the facility until it was too late. Additionally troubling were occurrences such as falls resulting in injury which were also not disclosed to family members until weeks later—a disconcerting indication that even urgent matters did not warrant timely transparency or diligence from staff members responsible for patient wellbeing.

Moreover, social engagement appeared virtually nonexistent during my loved one’s time spent at Clark Manor; activities revolved around an outdated television set rather than fostering community involvement through organized events or outings—a disappointing fact given expectations set forth by admissions discussions beforehand. There was only one lunch outing plus a holiday party over four months; this highlighted an overarching neglect regarding emotional health through community connection so pivotal for seniors' well-being.

In conclusion, despite presenting itself as a high-quality assisted living option designed to accommodate those with complex needs like my loved one’s situation required thorough professionalism paired with empathy—it fell tragically short on all counts right down its core philosophy surrounding care provision itself. Clearly assessing genuine capabilities before placement is critical moving forward; no matter how "grand" or inviting an environment might appear outwardly speaking—the reality behind closed doors may tell an entirely different story if not carefully scrutinized ahead of time.
