Pricing

At Kelly Lake Manor, the monthly cost for a private room is set at $5,970, which significantly exceeds both the DeKalb County average of $2,415 and the broader state figure for Georgia at $2,864. This considerable difference suggests that Kelly Lake Manor may offer specialized services or amenities that justify its higher rate compared to local and state averages. Prospective residents should consider these factors carefully when evaluating options in relation to their care needs and financial planning.

Review

Kelly Lake Manor, a property for sale that seemed suitable for a personal care home, raised some concerns during a recent visit. The first impression was marred by the sight of an unclothed man running freely. However, this unconventional encounter seemed to be attributed to his mental condition and lack of medication. Once inside, a staff member (whose name began with an "M") greeted us and proceeded to ask numerous questions about our purpose for being there.

Unfortunately, the chaotic start continued as we were informed that we were forbidden from going upstairs since those areas were reserved for boarders. This revelation contradicted earlier information stating that the home was licensed for only six residents. It appeared that the majority of individuals residing at Kelly Lake Manor were classified as boarders rather than official residents. Additionally, it was surprising to learn that there was no age minimum for occupants.

Despite these initial setbacks, it was reassuring to know that the facility had strict policies in place regarding drinking and drugs. Additionally, ample time would be given (30 days) should evacuation become necessary, but immediate eviction could occur upon owner notification. Upon further inquiry into my father's mobility and medication management abilities, it became evident that Kelly Lake Manor required residents to handle their own transportation arrangements and pill consumption.

One concern arose when observing the lone staff member simultaneously attempting to set the table for twelve people while fielding questions about meal preparations. It seemed that the actual menu deviated from what had been posted previously. Furthermore, laundry responsibilities also fell on this same overworked employee who allowed boarders access to machines on Tuesdays and weekends.

The fact that smoking was permitted at Kelly Lake Manor might be appreciated by some potential residents but could be seen as a downside for others who value clean air quality. The owner of the property came across as friendly during our visit; however, some reservations remained regarding the staff members' cold demeanor.

The location of Kelly Lake Manor provided some advantages, as it was situated away from the main street. However, the presence of stairs raised concerns for individuals with limited mobility, especially considering that the door leading to the stairway seemed obscure and potentially hazardous.

Lastly, during my visit, I had the opportunity to experience the lunch service. Unfortunately, I found the meal unappealing and noticed a lack of provided snacks. Additionally, there was no mention of transportation being available for medical visits, which left me feeling dissatisfied with their level of care.

In conclusion, although Kelly Lake Manor initially appeared promising as a potential personal care home for my father, several noteworthy concerns arose during our visit. These included an unsettling encounter upon arrival, conflicting information about occupancy limits and age restrictions, staff members being burdened with numerous responsibilities, smoking allowances on-site, and unsatisfactory meal options. Ultimately these factors left doubts about whether this facility would be able to effectively manage a licensed Personal Care Home.
