We trusted the facility's name and its supposed focus, and our son spent several weeks there this year. From the start, though, it became clear to us that something was seriously wrong. He developed a urinary tract infection and tested positive for MRSA in his tracheostomy tube. There were days when he was left uncovered for hours after a shower while his body temperature sat at a dangerous 92 degrees. Then, on a subsequent visit, we were told he had a fever of 105 and that no doctor or hospital visit would be arranged. We watched as seizures appeared to be brewing, only to be told they were not seizures and to hope for the best. The pattern felt like a growing neglect rather than care, and the signs of distress and damage to our son's health continued to accumulate.
Over time, we witnessed our son open his eyes with a change in his condition that could not be ignored. He had sustained damage that we could see, and the most alarming moment involved a large sore on his head. The staff claimed it was dandruff or yeast buildup, a diagnosis that felt inadequate given the seriousness of a head wound on a child who had been in their care. When we demanded that he be seen by a doctor and admitted to a hospital, the staff initially refused. It took us threatening to call 911 before they finally agreed to send him for evaluation. The hospital trip revealed injuries that required significant medical attention, including treatment for a pressure wound on his head that a wound expert needed to address. The experience left us shaken and convinced that crucial moments of medical judgment had been mishandled.
Our son's hospital stay finally led us to another Las Vegas facility known for pediatric care - Silver State Pediatrics. After the transfer, he spent four weeks there and, in our view, there has not been a single problem. The contrast is stark. The staff at Silver State Pediatrics treated him as if he were their own child - an empathy and attentiveness we had not seen at the prior facility. We also heard about the administrator, Misty, and were told she was a poor hiring decision who allegedly covers up neglect reports to protect staff. The gravity of these allegations, and the impression of a corporation or facility that would go to lengths to shield problems from exposure, left us deeply unsettled.
One practical detail that lingered in our minds was the logistics and location. The address associated with the facility - 7690 Carmen Blvd - has reportedly been mislocated on Google Maps, with directions noting it sits just off of Buffalo, north of Washington 2nd Street, and that some routes can leave you "too far" if you're not careful. The confusion around the location underscored to us the broader sense of disorganization and mismanagement that accompanied many of our experiences there. In our view, these practical missteps echoed the more troubling clinical concerns we had witnessed.
