Review

Experience and Care at The Ridge Rehabilitation Center

Since her admission on February 8, 2015, my mother has been recuperating at The Ridge following brain surgery necessitated by a fall. The facility was chosen for its capacity to provide specialized care tailored to her recovery needs, which include ongoing medical treatment for wounds and ulcers on her heels, as well as scheduled physical and occupational therapy sessions. These services are crucial for her rehabilitation journey. Our experience has largely been positive, thanks in large part to the dedication of caregivers like Josielyn, my mother's physical therapist, who has been instrumental in helping her regain her walking ability.

The support staff at The Ridge plays an essential role in my mother's daily care. Anna Saenz, the certified nursing assistant (CNA) assigned to the morning shift from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., provides invaluable assistance with activities of daily living—bathing, dressing, and toileting—ensuring that my mother’s basic needs are met with dignity and respect. These interactions extend beyond just physical assistance; they contribute meaningfully to her emotional well-being as well. The facility prides itself on offering round-the-clock medical supervision facilitated by licensed or registered nurses, which affords peace of mind regarding my mother's ongoing health concerns.

One standout feature is the cleanliness of The Ridge—a quality that I deeply appreciate as a family member of a resident. “Spic and span” is how I would describe it; maintaining such standards is crucial for any healthcare setting but especially vital when dealing with patients requiring recovery from significant medical procedures like my mother’s brain surgery. During visits—which we make every day for at least three hours—we have consistently observed that both the common areas and patient rooms are kept tidy. A clean environment not only fosters comfort but also enhances the overall healing process.

However, our experiences have not been without challenges. Previously, during my mother’s time at another rehabilitation center known simply as Ridge Rehabilitation Center—for comfort care rather than intensive rehabilitation—the quality of service seemed variable depending on staffing circumstances. While many staff members were competent and provided satisfactory care, there were instances that raised serious concerns regarding hygiene practices. For example, one young caregiver failed to change gloves after attending to personal tasks involving hygiene and sanitation—a practice that should be non-negotiable in such settings. Upon reporting this incident, I was met with assurances that such oversights were rare; nonetheless, it left a troubling impression about consistency in caregiving standards.

Moreover, while regular monitoring of vitals was promised every hour during my mother’s stay in the previous facility, there were times when checks stretched into two or three-hour intervals without any observation from staff members—something that understandably prompted distress for both me and other visiting family members concerned about their loved ones’ wellbeing. Admittedly, while most days brought prompt attention from dedicated nurses who ensured adequate monitoring and care came through regularly—as experienced currently at The Ridge—it remains critical for facilities to uphold stringent protocols across all shifts.

At present My mother is continuing her rehabilitation journey at The Ridge which may be an older building yet boasts an impressive team committed to delivering effective physical therapy solutions tailored specifically for each patient’s unique requirements within limited resources available due to its smaller size compared to larger facilities around town. Although certain aspects could be improved upon—from the quality of food served (which we feel could use enhancement)—the overall satisfaction remains derived from how staff prioritize attentive treatment toward residents’ needs over operational convenience alone.

Ultimately what stands out amidst all observations made thus far about both centers—including particularly noticeable differences among individual caregivers—is an overall sense devotion demonstrated alongside professional care extended toward residents ensuring they’re not merely treated medically but cherished holistically throughout their rehabilitative experience too! Each visit instills hope for continued recovery progress; bolstered by diligence exhibited day-to-day wherein hard work truly reflects core values upheld by everyone who contributes selflessly behind-the-scenes characterizing this supportive environment offered here too!
