Disappointing Experience with Elisabeth House in Hagerstown

Recently, we had our first encounter with Elisabeth House in Hagerstown and unfortunately, it proved to be a highly disappointing experience. We had initially met with Minnie, who informed us that she would need to assess my mother's condition for 30 days. However, just three days after dropping her off at the facility on April 9th, we received a call requesting us to pick her up as they claimed they were unable to deal with her wandering behavior.

Confusing Pricing and Changing Rates: During our initial meeting with Minnie, she outlined the move-in fee of $500 and a monthly rate of $2,000. Though we hadn't paid the fee initially due to pending paperwork, we were suddenly asked to pay when someone else showed interest in the room. Consequently, my wife sent an overnight check to hold the room. Curiously enough, on April 9th - when we toured the facility again - the price had inflated unexpectedly to $2200. Despite finding this raise peculiar, we agreed since it was still within our budget.

False Promises and Inadequate Security Measures: Minnie assured us during our initial meeting that Elisabeth House was equipped for dementia patients like my mother. Furthermore, she demonstrated their system of unlocking doors using codes during our tour. However, just two days later on April 11th, Minnie called us claiming that they couldn't accommodate my mother due to her wandering tendencies. This left us feeling not only frustrated about losing the $500 move-in fee but also skeptical about their competence and false promises made earlier.

Inconsistent Decision-Making: To compound matters further, after informing us that they couldn't keep my mother due to her wandering behavior on April 11th, Minnie changed her mind and decided to keep her another day without proper explanation or notice. Seeing no improvement in the situation, my brother ultimately drove up to pick our mother up himself. This inconsistent decision-making and lack of transparency further exacerbated our disappointment with Elisabeth House.

In conclusion, our experience with Elisabeth House in Hagerstown was disheartening and far from satisfactory. The unclear pricing structure, sudden changes in rates, false promises regarding their ability to handle dementia patients, inadequate security measures for wandering residents, and inconsistent decision-making have left us severely disappointed. Regrettably, we not only lost $500 but also witnessed a lack of professionalism and compassion during this ordeal. Based on our experience, we cannot recommend Elisabeth House to anyone who has an active parent living with dementia.
