Review

When I made the difficult decision to leave my mother in the care of North Lake Home, I had high hopes. The caregiver at the facility seemed genuinely caring and expressed a strong interest in cooking nutritious meals for the residents. Despite being thousands of miles away across the country and unable to visit due to both Covid restrictions and personal reasons, I trusted that my mother would receive the quality care she deserved.

Initially, things appeared to be going well at North Lake Home. However, a miscommunication regarding a payment arose, which was partly my fault but also largely due to the owner's oversight. Thankfully, this issue was eventually resolved, but it had unintended consequences on my mother's care. To my surprise and disappointment, the owner seemed to hold a grudge against me for this mistake and decided to retaliate by reducing the level of care provided to my mother.

This sudden change in attitude and approach towards my mother's care became evident as she struggled with her tablet. Previously, staff members had assisted her with technical issues and ensured she stayed connected with loved ones through phone calls. However, after this incident, all assistance seemed to disappear. My mother was left feeling frustrated and isolated without anyone to help her navigate her device or connect with her friends and family.

Furthermore, any packages I sent for my mother were mysteriously withheld from her. It was disheartening to learn that not only was she lacking emotional support but also denied access to physical items that could bring her joy during such challenging times. It became abundantly clear that the owner's actions were not only heartless but also negligent in fulfilling their duty of care towards residents like my mother.

While I understand that caring for elderly individuals can be demanding and challenging, it is ultimately the responsibility of the facility owner and their staff to provide adequate support and assistance. Regardless of whether or not my mother presented difficulties or required extra attention, it should never have justified such callous treatment. This experience at North Lake Home serves as a cautionary tale for anyone considering entrusting the care of their loved ones to this facility.

In conclusion, despite my initial optimism about North Lake Home and the genuine concern shown by the caregiver upon my mother's arrival, my perception quickly changed due to a payment mistake that was not entirely my fault. The owner's decision to reduce care as a means of punishment was deeply disappointing and affected not only my mother's emotional well-being but also her ability to stay connected with her loved ones. It is important to approach such decisions with caution and heed this warning in order to ensure the best possible care for our elderly family members.
