    Review

Finding the perfect memory care home for a loved one can be a daunting task. In the case of my best friend, I assisted her family in the search for a facility that would not only provide excellent care but also ensure camaraderie and stimulation for her. After careful consideration, we were immediately impressed by the beauty and cleanliness of Paintbrush memory care home. Its wide range of activities catered to its Residents' physical and mental needs.

Initially, our confidence in Paintbrush was high as we observed capable and engaged aides caring for the residents. However, it wasn't long before a noticeable change occurred within the facility. The once united team of caregivers seemed to lose their sense of teamwork. Many residents began walking around aimlessly, resembling zombies instead of individuals receiving personalized care. Moreover, the lack of activities further highlighted this decline in quality.

To exacerbate matters, both the Executive Director and Memory Care Director went on leave during this time period, leaving a void in leadership within Paintbrush. To fill these important roles temporarily, the Activities Director took charge of the memory care unit. Unfortunately, upon returning from leave, only the Executive Director resumed their position while no replacement was found for the Memory Care Director. Shockingly, even without any qualifying credentials, the Activities Director was promoted to become the new Memory Care Director.

The impact on residents under this new management structure became distressingly evident through my friend's experience at Paintbrush. Within less than three months of residing there, she lost a staggering 30 pounds in weight and all semblance of color from her face disappeared entirely. Her head drooped permanently onto her chest, rendering her unable to maintain eye contact or engage in meaningful conversation beyond uttering gibberish. An alarming dependence on diapers provided by Paintbrush further developed due to their encouragement primarily for overnight use; eventually causing her to forget how to use a restroom independently. Furthermore, she spiraled into depression amidst these deteriorating conditions.

Upon removing my friend from Paintbrush and placing her in a different care facility, a miraculous transformation occurred. The color returned to her face, her ability to communicate coherently resurfaced, and she could once again hold her head upright. Her basic skills like feeding herself, which had seemingly vanished at Paintbrush, were relearned swiftly. Most importantly, she regained her happiness and zest for life. While her dementia remained an aspect that still required substantial care, it was evident that the change in environment had a significant positive impact on her overall well-being.

In light of this heart-wrenching experience, I implore anyone considering Paintbrush as a memory care home to think twice before entrusting their loved one's life into their hands. It is clear from our firsthand experience that the quality of care and attention provided by the staff drastically declined during our time there. The decline in physical health, mental stimulation, and emotional wellbeing experienced by my friend illustrated a blatant disregard for the residents' welfare at Paintbrush. Choose wisely when making such an important decision; your loved one deserves nothing less than outstanding care and support from their chosen memory care home.
