Horizon Elderly Care Home Costs & Pricing

Horizon Elderly Care Home offers competitive rates for its residents, particularly when viewed in the context of Orange County and statewide averages. For a semi-private room, the monthly cost at Horizon stands at $3,800, which is slightly above the county average of $3,431 yet remains higher than the state average of $3,333. In contrast, the private room rate of $4,200 is marginally above both the Orange County rate of $4,104 and significantly higher than California's statewide average of $3,939. Review

The home where my Mom stayed for 6 weeks was overall a clean and nicely decorated place. However, there was one major issue that really bothered me - the food provided by Horizon. I was shocked to see the poor quality of the meals they served. For the hefty price of $1,000 a week, I would expect something more than boxed Kraft Macaroni & Cheese with Spam, Franks and Beans, and lots of soup. It left a lot to be desired in terms of taste and nutrition.

What disappointed me even more was that no one else in the house seemed to care about the quality of the food or spoke up about it. It felt as though they just fed them whatever was quick and easy, without any consideration for providing healthy meals. This definitely did not sit well with me because that's not who my Mom is. She always appreciated good food and took pleasure in cooking herself.

Now that she has moved back to her apartment, I feel compelled to let the people at Horizon know about our experience. It's important for them to understand how much this aspect affected our family's perception of their facility. They should consider investing in a cookbook or culinary expertise that enables them to prepare home-cooked meals using healthier ingredients.

Making macaroni and cheese from scratch with real cheese, milk, and butter is not a difficult task. The vibrant orange color found in Kraft Macaroni & Cheese doesn't originate from real cheese anyways! By incorporating fresh ingredients into their recipes, Horizon could significantly enhance the dining experience for their residents.

Furthermore, there are countless healthy options available that are just as simple to make. Perhaps acquiring a crockpot would be a wise investment for Horizon – it allows for easy preparation of nutritious meals with minimal effort required.

Sharing my concerns serves not only as feedback but also as guidance for other families seeking care facilities for their loved ones. When entrusting someone else with their health and well-being, it's essential to consider all aspects, including the quality of the food provided. Hopefully, by raising awareness about this issue, I can assist others in making informed decisions when choosing a suitable place for their family members' care and comfort.
