    Review

In 2022, our father moved to Avantara Clark in South Dakota after suffering a severe stroke that left him needing skilled nursing care. From the moment he arrived, the staff's dedication to his well-being was clear, and we felt a profound sense of gratitude for the exceptional care he received. The facility proved to be not just a place to live, but a safe and truly loving home for him during his final years. The environment reflected care in every detail, from the cleanliness of both the interior and exterior to the noticeable upgrades and fresh paint that gave the building a renewed, welcoming feel.

What stood out just as much as the medical care was the everyday experience - the meals. I ate the same food as the residents and found it to be quite good, a small but meaningful sign that he was included in the daily routines and treated with the same respect as everyone else. The sense of normalcy and care extended beyond medical needs to everyday life, helping him feel comfortable and valued in a new place.

From every department, the staff showed a level of compassion that felt like they truly loved and cared for him. They made every effort to know his likes and dislikes, and they consistently treated him as a priority. Importantly, they were accessible and communicative; whenever he had a health issue, they called me immediately, ensuring I was kept in the loop and able to participate in his care despite the distance - his being about three hours away from me. This steady, loving attention gave me a deep sense of security that he was in good hands.

The care team didn't stop at routine checks or medical oversight; they created a positive, nurturing environment for his time there. The staff's warmth and attentiveness helped to make his days as positive as they could be, and their empathy extended to his family as well. When his days were near their end, the staff's sadness matched ours, underscoring how deeply they cared about his well-being and dignity in his final moments. Their thoughtfulness was extraordinary, culminating in a bouquet of flowers they sent and a thoughtful plaque and roses laid beside his bed - gestures that were as moving as they were unexpected.

We could not have asked for better care, and we know we could never repay the kindness the Avantara Clark team showed us. Even though there might have been closer facilities, we chose to keep him where he was because the level of care and the staff's genuine commitment to his comfort and happiness simply could not be matched. That decision was vindicated time and again by the harmony between excellent clinical care and a family-friendly atmosphere that made every day meaningful for him and for us.

As I was preparing to leave after rehabilitation from multiple surgeries, a surprising thought crossed my mind: how long would I miss the people there? The moment I stepped outside the doors, I realized the answer - immediately. The sense of belonging, the familiarity, and the trust built with the caregivers stayed with me, underscoring how special the environment at Avantara Clark is. Even as I moved forward with recovery and life back home, the connection to the staff and the care they provided remained a constant memory.

Overall, the impression of Avantara Clark is of a place where friendliness and professionalism intersect to create an inviting, family-like space for both residents and visitors. The staff's warmth is palpable the moment you walk in; it feels warm and welcoming, and the overall atmosphere is one of genuine support. The food consistently earns praise, described as great, with a sense that every meal is prepared with care. Cleanliness is evident everywhere, reinforcing a sense of safety and well-being. In every interaction, the staff's readiness to lend a helping hand shines through, reinforcing the sense that residents are treated like family and that their comfort and dignity are the top priorities.
