    From Pam

We have sincerely appreciated Mark Stevens for his support while I have been recovering from surgery. He has played a big role in letting us remain at home instead of going somewhere during the acute phase after my surgery. He's very helpful doing housework, picking up medication at the pharmacy and taking us to medical appointments. He even picked up after our dog! Thank you Mark for everything.

A separate note from Sara Hoffman, Lead Care Coordinator, speaks to a strong, ongoing partnership. Sara is described as fantastic at her job, and when she was invited to present to residents at CWV, she did so with grace and poise. The residents were very interactive with her, and Sara was able to answer a lot of questions. The sentiment is clear: we love our partnership with Home Instead and the expertise Sara brings to the table.

For families navigating dementia, the care team can feel like a lifeline. One writer shares how three amazing care pros - Richard, Lynelle, and Dana - enriched her husband's life over two years. Richard helped him pick up neighborhood trash and even received thanks from people along the route. Lynelle took him shopping, out to lunch, and helped him to keep making his beloved tuna fish sandwiches. Dana walked with him to the neighborhood coffee shop, did many puzzles with him, and kept him safe. The message is one of deep compassion and steady companionship, a true sense of being seen and cared for.

There is also a story of continued support as families transition to assisted living. Beverly, a caregiver brought in to be with aging parents, was described as dependable, thoughtful and kind, a source of steady communication for the family. When the time came to lose a father, Sara and Rachael checked in to ensure the family had the support they needed for mom, helping to keep her cared for during a difficult transition. The gratitude runs deep, underscoring how important consistent, thoughtful outreach is to families in moments of change.

Another family in Portland highlights the impact of a caregiver who becomes almost like family. Sheila receives weekly updates and helps their mother and father stay in their home longer than they could have otherwise, which is described as the biggest blessing to the whole family. The reliability, punctuality and flexibility of Sheila's schedule are praised as keys to helping people stay connected to their familiar surroundings and routines.

In another telling, care for an elderly father in a memory care setting is placed in capable hands with Kim, David, and DallasAnn. The caregivers' approach - encouraging, supportive, and engaged - has been described as fantastic, helping the father feel encouraged and connected. It's a reminder that several team members can share the load, providing a richer level of attention and activity that enhances quality of life.

A separate testimonial centers on hospice-era care and the person-to-person warmth that can define the experience. Dana is again singled out for her heartfelt, strong, and wholly caring presence, bringing a sense of dignity and compassion to the moment when a family needed it most. The mother's quality of life was enriched by Dana's kind heart, a sentiment echoed with gratitude: we thank her from the bottom of our hearts.

The broader roster of caregivers also earns praise for their professionalism and human touch. Arriane, Marbrissa and Rose are named by a family as trusted caregivers who treat their mother as they would their own. Sadia Cesear is described as wonderful, and the family notes how "they" love working with Home Instead because staff are understanding and ready to assist when help is needed. The sentiment is that the company's people bring both empathy and a professional standard that makes a tangible difference.

Other testimonials continue to emphasize the consistent care and partnership. One writer describes Home Instead in Portland as a professional, caring team where the caregivers are "5+ stars" and the client care coordinator, Sara, is responsive and accommodating to family requests. The experience is framed as a positive, collaborative and ongoing relationship that supports the patient and the family through daily needs and adjustments.

Not every story is without challenge. A more critical account describes a very difficult period where a dementia patient's care plan was undermined by late arrivals and high caregiver turnover. The reviewer says caregivers were consistently late, sometimes no-shows, and that the care plan allowed the patient to sleep all day with little interaction. They report that despite repeated complaints, there was little accountability or penalty for missed visits, and even after terminating, they received ongoing calls about substitutions. The takeaway is cautionary: before engaging, discuss terms and accountability clearly, as the reviewer urges prospective clients to ensure that there are enforceable commitments and penalties for no-shows.

Amid the varied experiences, there are also profoundly personal recovery stories that underscore the human impact of good care. One person recovering from a life-threatening septicemia and brain abscess highlights Lynndy Bethune as a crucial ally. She helped with showers when the patient could not, kept the home orderly, shopped wisely, and ensured safety through exercise and movement, all while encouraging healthy eating. The appreciation for Lynndy's expertise and cheerful support is palpable.

In sum, Portland's Home Instead offerings reveal a broad spectrum of family experiences. Some families celebrate caregivers who feel like extended family, who keep loved ones at home longer, help with errands and medical appointments, provide companionship, and deliver timely updates that ease anxiety for everyone involved. Others remind us that care is a human relationship with its bumps: late arrivals, turnover, and the need for clear terms and accountability. Yet the stories share a common thread: when caregivers show up with genuine care, skill, and communication, they can transform the daily reality of aging, illness, and recovery into something more manageable, dignified, and peaceful for both patients and their families. The voices collected - from Mark's practical help to Dana's compassionate presence, from the coordinators' responsive support to the caregivers who become trusted partners - paint a portrait of a service that can be a lifeline, as well as a lesson in ensuring dependable, accountable care.
