Moving into a DR Horton home brought with it a package deal that included Safe Haven security and Deako smart lighting, and I chose to purchase both in hopes of a seamless, integrated home setup. At first glance, it seemed like a straightforward path to better security and convenience. The plan was clear: a functioning security system paired with smart lighting to simplify daily life. But what followed was a growing sequence of miscommunications, poor follow-through, and mounting frustration that kept the system from delivering on its promise.
The trouble began with the door keypad, which became the focal point of my early concerns. I reached out to my sales representative for help configuring the keypad, expecting straightforward guidance. An appointment was scheduled, but the technician did not call at the arranged time. He eventually reached out several hours later, but I was tied up with work calls and unable to answer. When we finally connected, the technician tried to assist, but he didn't address my primary question: how exactly do I enter the code into the keypad to unlock the door? There was no definitive method provided, leaving me uncertain and frustrated about basic access.
Shortly after this interaction, malfunction errors began appearing, compounding the problem. I contacted my sales rep again, Easton Collins, who told me he'd follow up with a call and suggested that it might be best to send someone out to inspect the issue. Unfortunately, that promise never materialized. Since the beginning of the previous week, I've sent multiple emails with no response, and the problems continued to accumulate. By the time I reached seven malfunction errors, there was still no resolution or assistance in sight.
To make matters worse, I was told I'd have to pay out of pocket to fix the issue - even though the underlying problem seems to be tied to the original setup and not something I caused. It's incredibly frustrating to receive a blame-and-fee response for a fault that appears to originate in the system's initial installation. The sense I'm left with is that the responsible parties aren't standing behind the product they sold, and the financial burden of repairs is being placed on me rather than being addressed as a service issue.
This experience feeds a broader sense of disappointment about customer service. It often feels like, once a sale is completed, a company's responsibility ends, and you're left to fend for yourself when problems arise. The lack of reliable follow-up, the absence of clear, actionable guidance, and the impression that defects from the original setup aren't adequately supported all contribute to a growing distrust. It's hard to feel secure in a system that seems to abandon you when the very features - security and intelligent lighting - that were supposed to simplify life fail or misbehave.
Ultimately, what I want and deserve is basic accountability and dependable support. A clear, working method for operating the keypad, a reliable plan for troubleshooting that doesn't leave me waiting in limbo, and a legitimate path to cover or correct defects that stem from the initial installation. The current experience does not satisfy those expectations, and it's enough to make anyone reconsider the value of integrating third-party services like Deako lighting with a home security package. I hope the companies involved address these gaps so future customers aren't left facing the same frustration.
