At Anna's Gardens, the monthly costs for accommodation present a competitive option within both San Luis Obispo County and the broader California market. For semi-private rooms, Anna's Gardens offers a rate of $3,295, which is notably lower than the county average of $3,575 and aligns closely with the state average of $3,333. In contrast, private room rates at Anna's Gardens are set at $5,795, which exceeds both the county's rate of $4,372 and the state's average of $3,939. This pricing structure suggests that while Anna's Gardens provides an attractive solution for those seeking semi-private accommodations, it positions itself at a premium level for private rooms compared to local alternatives. Overall, potential residents may find value in the unique offerings and care provided by Anna's Gardens despite its higher private room cost.

    Review

Anna's Gardens, operated by Sheppard Care Associates, initially struck me as an ideal environment for my mother. Upon visiting the facility, I was impressed with its clean spaces, well-furnished rooms, and the overall appealing aesthetics of the premises. The dining experience was commendable; meals were consistently wonderful and served punctually. Additionally, I observed that the staff maintained a high level of professionalism and attentiveness towards both residents and visitors, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The doctors and nurses appeared readily available to address any medical needs, ensuring that medications were administered correctly and in a timely manner.

In terms of activities offered to residents, Anna's Gardens seemed well-organized with thoughtfully planned events that likely kept the elderly engaged and stimulated. The garden area itself was beautifully maintained, contributing to a serene environment that fostered relaxation among the residents. Importantly, noise levels within the facility remained low; televisions were not excessively loud nor played for extended periods. This considerate management of sound made it a more tranquil setting for those residing there.

Despite these positive aspects of Anna's Gardens, my mother's personal experience did not align with what I had hoped for her time there. Although I found the environment suitable upon initial inspection—boasting cleanliness and structured activities—my mother expressed dissatisfaction with her stay from the beginning. Her discomfort prompted us to make arrangements for her relocation after just three weeks at Anna's Gardens. Tragically, before these plans could materialize, she passed away.

This unfortunate circumstance highlighted some of my concerns regarding Sheppard Care Associates' business practices. While they promptly collected payments for care services—receiving fees in advance—they exhibited fiscal irresponsibility in refunding amounts owed after resident departures. My mother had already been charged for both February and March when she passed away at the end of March 2016; thus an April payment needed to be refunded as well. Regrettably, I have only received 26% of this refund nearly two months later—a situation compounded by Peter S.'s reluctance to accommodate requests to settle outstanding dues even while his clients are expected to pay their debts without fail.

As challenging as it has been navigating these financial discrepancies with Anna's Gardens post-death—particularly given how quickly they expect payment from families—the overall quality of care provided during my mother’s brief stay cannot be overlooked. The facility appears committed to maintaining decent standards for its residents; many elements indicative of thoughtful caregiving stood out clearly throughout our time there.

Ultimately, if you are considering placement for a loved one at Anna's Gardens or any similar care facility managed by Sheppard Care Associates, it is crucial to weigh both sides carefully before making decisions based solely on first impressions or on-site observations alone. While I believe the physical environment supports resident needs effectively—making it a safe choice where patients appear cared for—it would be prudent to prepare yourselves should circumstances arise requiring refunds or adjustments related to billing practices that may not reflect the same transparency as their operational aspects do.

For now though—and despite our less-than-ideal outcome—I can say confidently: once settled into their routine within such an establishment—provided all goes smoothly—residents at Anna’s Gardens can indeed enjoy quite favorable living conditions amidst competent hands overseeing their everyday affairs.
