    Cons

      Review

From the very start, Country Cottage felt less like a care facility and more like a family gathering where every member truly matters. The staff treated my mother with a level of warmth and respect that went beyond standard care - she was not just a resident, she was part of their extended family. This sense of belonging and genuine care came from the entire team, and it made an immeasurable difference in her daily life and in ours.

After my dad passed away, my mom needed more help than I could provide, and Country Cottage stepped in with a safe, loving home. They addressed every need immediately and stayed in close touch with me at all times, guiding me through a difficult and emotional period. When it came time for my mom to pass, they were by my side every step of the way. They helped me find a hospice organization and also connected us with a group that could provide full-time in-home care. Kelly and Sherry were with me throughout those heartbreakingly practical moments, offering support, guidance, and a steady presence.

The people at Country Cottage became more than caregivers; they became part of our family. I will forever be grateful for the way their care extended beyond basic duties to make Mom's final chapter peaceful and dignified. The sense that I was never alone in this journey - and that the staff genuinely cared for my mother as if she were their own family - remains a powerful memory. Their ongoing commitment continues to give me solace as I remember her.

There is a warmth and a family atmosphere that permeates the entire place. The staff is consistently excellent, professional, and deeply caring. My mother herself often spoke of the quality of the meals, noting that the food was excellent and that she never had a bad meal. That consistency in nourishment, attentiveness, and home-like comfort is a core part of why I would readily recommend Country Cottage to anyone seeking a place for an aging loved one.

Transitions and moves within the area also reflect the strength of this community. We recently moved my sister to Country Cottages Assisted Living in Decatur, AL, and the move and transition went exceptionally well. She adapted to the smaller, family-centered facility with surprising ease, and she frequently mentions how much she enjoys the meals. The sense of belonging and the supportive environment helped her feel at home quickly.

I have also seen the impact on friends placed at Country Cottage. I moved a dear friend into the facility about a month ago, and the improvement in her physical health and mental clarity has been remarkable in this short time. She participates in the activities and feels well-liked and cared for. Every time I speak with her, she expresses gratitude and happiness, often saying, "I love this place, and I'm happy here."

Over the course of about 19 months, Country Cottage has been a wonderful home for my own mother. The staff consistently made her feel loved and taken care of, and the environment - comfortable and cozy - felt like a real home. The residents welcomed her, helping her participate in activities, and the staff kept me informed about her involvement and health. While we hoped she could spend her days there, the progression of dementia eventually required memory care. Even so, my family and I remain deeply appreciative of the care she received at Country Cottage and would recommend it to others seeking assisted living in the Decatur area.
